AVG and GDPR in open banking

With Open Banking you can easily gain insight into your customers' banking transactions.Due to the privacy-sensitive nature of the data, it is important to handle it according to the rules. That is why we have also arranged this well in our software. In this blog we will tell you more about the options that the EnableNow open banking platform offers in the context of the GDPR.

You can only view a customer's data if your customer explicitly gives permission for this via our platform. In open banking terms, permission is called a 'consent' .According to current regulations (2024), you will have access to the account for 180 days. After that, permission must be requested again. At EnableNow, we show the transaction history of the past 1.5 years by default. You can view the collected data via one of our portals or retrieve it via the API and save it yourself.

GDPR settings

Within our platform, we have various options to automate the GDPR process. By default, we delete all data from a consent after 1 year. You can easily deviate positively from the standard. On our platform, you can select the exact number of days after which we can automatically delete the data. Longer than a year is not possible, but earlier is. You can also take control yourself by linking our platform to your own software. Via our API, you can have a consent and associated data deleted immediately. For example, some customers delete the data immediately after receipt and validation. The last option we offer is manual deletion via our portals. This is used, for example, by customers with smaller volumes.

Customer retains control

The regulations are very simple. The data that a customer shares with you always remains the property of the customer. A customer can withdraw permission to view at any time.In concrete terms, this means that from that moment on you can no longer retrieve new transactions. You may retain the data that you have collected up to that point. If a customer reports with a request to delete the historical data, you are obliged to comply with this.

Do what you promise

Be honest and transparent in your communication with the customer and above all, do what you promise.Clearly explain in your terms and conditions what you are going to use the data for, how long you will retain the data and what rights your customer has and stick to them. The customers who score highest with us on conversion have in common that they have the provision of information in this area in perfect order.
